SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Food insecurity appears to be rising in Sioux Falls during the coronavirus pandemic.
Doug Masek is with Faith Temple Church, which organizes a food giveaway at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds every Friday. He says they typically give away roughly four to five hundred boxes of food. They gave out 850 this past week.
Masek said the surge “means two things: People are concerned, or people are just really hungry.”
The church put in a new drive-through setup for Friday’s giveaway to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
“This is a different setup than we’ve ever done, but they understand because of the need,” Masek said. “The overall feeling is just very appreciative.”
