SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Over the weekend, Walmart and Hy-Vee implemented some variation of “one-way” traffic in their Sioux Falls stores and other changes because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Perhaps the most notable change is at Walmart. There is now literally one way in and another way out. At the south side Walmart on Minnesota Avenue, you go in through one set of doors on the grocery side and another set, also on the grocery side.
The doors to go to the garden center and pharmacy are blocked off with signs, chains, and police tape.
Inside it’s much the same traffic flow. Sunday evening, when KELO.com News visited, some shoppers were wearing cloth masks and a few of the checkout clerks were also wearing masks. There are also spots on the floor six feet apart reminding people to practice social distancing at checkout. Checkout stands had plexiglass panels to the left of the credit card reader to help protect the clerk.
At Hy-Vee at 57th and Cliff, you get in and out of the store the same but inside it is different. Much like Dakota and Main Avenues in downtown Sioux Falls, the aisle is one way. Big blue arrows point in the direction you should be going.
KELO.com News also visited the store Sunday evening. Like Walmart, they have spots reminding shoppers where to stand in the checkout line to maintain good social distancing. KELO.com News noticed a few shoppers wore masks but no Hy-Vee staff that it encountered.
Hy-Vee’s plexiglass wall is more extensive that Walmart, covering more the area between shoppers and the clerks.
KELO.com News did not access the toilet paper supply at either store.
