SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Public Schools Chief Brian Maher has asked high school seniors for alternatives if traditional graduations need to be canceled.
Dr. Maher says the seniors came up with several good ideas for virtual graduations. The ideas include a kind of video yearbook.
“Some sort of collection of memories. If we could collect some video clips from students and put that together. Now that would be quite a bit of work..”
One message he got loud and clear from the students is that if they can’t have the traditional graduation at the usual time of the year, they don’t want it postponed to June or later.
Maher hasn’t given up on traditional ceremonies at the end of May, but he doesn’t want to hold out any false hopes. The school district will be making decisions in the weeks ahead.
All public schools will remain closed through the end of the school year to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
