SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Mayor Paul TenHaken took to social media in a show of solidarity with Smithfield foods.
TenHaken tweeted, “The City is actively supporting the efforts of the State and Smithfield right now. We’re in close communication with the leadership at Smithfield and the State and will continue to support both with any resources they may need.”
The South Dakota Department of Health reported that more than 80 employees at the Sioux Falls food processing plant have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The food processor was deemed a “hotspot” for the virus. The state and local department of health was said to be working closely with Smithfield foods at a Wednesday press conference.
