SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Critics ask why South Dakota’s hydroxycholorquine study should continue, what with other studies showing problems with the drug.
Sanford Chief Medical Officer Dr. Alison Suttle says the Sanford-led study is totally different, focusing only on whether the drug can prevent healthy people from getting COVID-19. She says other studies have focused on people who had the disease or were very sick from it.
Suttle says the study simply seeks to find the truth if the drug can prevent the coronavirus.
“I’m not invested in if it works or doesn’t work. What I want to know is an answer so we can move forward.”
Suttle took part in Governor Kristi Noem’s Thursday coronavirus briefing. Noem says there is a lot of misinformation going around about the South Dakota study.
Dr. Suttle says you just can’t compare the Sanford study with others.
“This is not even an apples to apples comparison. We are doing something completely different.”
The South Dakota clinical trial is in the very beginning stages, still in the process of signing up people to take part.
