SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — State health officials are reporting a COVID-19 cluster at a Rapid City nursing home.
South Dakota Secretary of Health Kim Malsam-Rysdon says 26 residents and staff at Avantara Arrowhead have tested positive. 20 of those tested positive this past weekend. Three residents are in the hospital.
Federal officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Servies found the first case as part of a sample they were conducting. South Dakota found more cases as part of its mass testing program for nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the state.
Malsam-Rysdon said the state has been in touch with the facility “after the first and all subsequent positives.” She said the state will conduct additional surveys to keep track of the situation.
