SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana men’s basketball team entered the NABC Top-25 for the first time this season, holding a No. 21 national ranking. The Vikings are 8-1 overall and 3-0 in NSIC action.
Augustana is one of three new teams to the poll and is the highest-ranked of the three newcomers. Pace (N.Y.) checked in at No. 23 and St. Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.) joined the poll at No. 24. The last appearance of Augie in the NABC Top-25 was the opening poll of the 2017-18 season when the Vikings were No. 22.
Junior Matt Cartwright leads the Vikings with 16.1 points per game while junior Tyler Riemersma owns three-straight double-doubles while averaging 12.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Sophomores Matt Todd and Michael Schaefer also average double figures with 12.0 and 11.6 points per game, respectively.
The Vikings are the only NSIC institution in the top-25 and continue conference action Friday at Minnesota Crookston and Saturday at Bemidji State. Augustana returns home to the Sanford Pentagon on Saturday, Dec. 21, hosting Wayne State at 5:30 p.m. Tickets to that contest can be purchased at GoAugie.com/tickets.
