MINNEAPOLIS, Minn (KELO.com) – South Dakota posted a 6-1 women’s tennis dual victory over Green Bay during Sunday’s match played at the baseline Tennis Center.
The Coyotes, after securing the doubles point, won five of six singles matches, all in straight sets.
Jana Lazarevic moved to 5-3 at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Estelle Vanthier.
Habiba Aly, now 5-2 at No. 2 singles, downed Yasmin Glazbrook, 6-3, 6-3.
Nanette Nylund earned a win at No. 4 singles when Shreya Chakraborty had to retire with an injury.
Meanwhile, fresmen Berta Girbau and Eesha Varma earned their first singles wins of the spring season. Girbau posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mia Melnizki at No. 3 singles and Varma won 6-3, 6-0 over Theresa Tebon at No. 6 singles.
Aly and Diaz posted a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles and Natka Kmoskova and Nylund earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles as South Dakota secured the doubles point to begin the match.
“Really good team performance today,” coach Brett Barnett said. ”We really needed this win.
“It’s been a rough start but we’ve made a lot of improvements the last couple of weeks and it was good to see people play complete matches. We came out sharp in doubles and that really set the tone to relax and play confident in singles.
South Dakota (1-7) travels to Lincoln to face Colorado State on Saturday.
