SARTELL, MINN.(KELO.com) – The University of Sioux Falls Tennis Team (4-2, 4-2 NSIC) received a pair of wins in singles but dropped a 5-2 decision to Minnesota Duluth in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Saturday at the Sta-Fit Center. The Cougars lost four of six singles matches and won at No. 2 doubles but dropped a decision at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.”It was a tough battle with UMD but we lost some crucial points that hurt,” said USF Head Coach Kevin Grebin. “Megan (Quandt) and Joelle (Thorfinnson) had solid performances in singles this weekend and Joelle and Rachel had a strong doubles performance today.
Now we need to rebound and come back next week with a strong performance,” he said. With her win at No. 1 singles, Megan Quandt moved to 3-2 on the season and is 2-0 playing in the top singles spot. Joelle Thorfinnson earned her second straight singles win at No. 4 singles and moved to 3-2 on the season with her second straight win.
In the doubles competition, Quandt and freshman Peyton Forney dropped a decision at No. 1 singles. However, USF rebounded to win at No. 2 doubles as Thorfinnson and Rachel Klatt won a 6-4 decision and now stand 2-0 on the season. At No. 3 Emily Applegate and Allison Eichacker paired in doubles for the first time but dropped a 6-2 decision. Next up for USF will be matches in St. Peter, Minn., against NSIC foe Minnesota State at 6 pm on Friday, Feb. 28 and a nonconference contest with Gustavus Adolphus at 8 am on Saturday, Feb. 29.
