Like South Dakota high school spring sports and the state state basketball tourney, the Sioux Falls Storm’s season is not cancelled yet.
The Indoor Football League, which would have started games a couple weeks ago, is postponed for another month, per President Trump’s recommendations to stay home.
Commissioner Todd Tryon, the former owner of the Sioux Falls Storm, told KWSN Wednesday the league has pushed back its its early July championship game to Aug. 22 at the latest.
A full 14-game schedule is now impossible, but Tryon is already exploring 12-game and 10-game schedules for each team. He said there might be one to three teams which may not participate at all because of continued concerns over a possible virus spread.
The IFL now has teams in Washington, California, and Arizona — all states currently in mandatory lockdown and with far higher COVID-19 rates than South Dakota.
Tryon said no minimum number of games have been set to hold a season, nor is there a “drop dead date” set for when the league will decide to pull the plug on the season.
