INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (KELO.com) – University of Sioux Falls Head Football Coach Jon Anderson has been appointed to the NCAA DII Football Committee.
Anderson, who was appointed by the NCAA in early May, will serve on the committee from Sept. 1, 2020, through August 31, 2024. He becomes one of eight members on the national committee, which consists of two members from each of the four Super Regions. Anderson is one of four football coaches nationally on the committee.
In his fourth season at USF, Anderson owns a 24-11 record with two NCAA DII playoff appearances. A year ago, USF Football, which received votes in the final AFCA Poll, was tied for third overall in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2019 with an 8-3 record, finished at 8-4 after a heart-breaking 24-21 road loss in the NCAA DII playoffs at Colorado Mines.
Anderson has directed USF to three straight seasons of seven or more wins and continued USF’s 26-year streak of consecutive winning seasons, which is the fourth-best streak across all NCAA divisions.
“I am appreciative of this opportunity to work and serve on the DII Football Committee,” said Anderson. “I am excited to represent the University of Sioux Falls and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference on a national level on the DII Football Committee,” added Anderson.
As a member, Anderson will help sustain and advance the NCAA’s mission, traditions, values, and reputation. Anderson will regularly participate in committee meetings and conference calls. He will also serve on the football regional advisory committee for Super Region IV, assist in regional rankings, and will also be responsible in assisting with the selection of teams to make the Division II football playoffs as a member of the national committee.
“I am pleased and excited for Jon to earn this committee appointment,” said USF Director of Athletics Pam Gohl. “He is the first coach to serve on a DII National Committee from USF.
A person with strong work ethic who is dedicated to service, this is a great opportunity for Jon, who will represent USF on an important NCAA National Committee,” said Gohl.A native of Maryville, Missouri, Anderson played college football for four years at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, and coached the secondary at his alma mater during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.
He moved to Madison, South Dakota, to join the Dakota State University staff as the linebackers and special teams coach for the 2001 season. From there, he began coaching at USF in 2002 while earning his master’s degree from South Dakota State in 2003.
He worked with legendary USF head coach Bob Young, and former head coaches Kalen DeBoer and Jed Stugart until being named Head Coach at West Virginia State University in 2012. On Dec. 6, 2017, he was named the 21st head coach at USF.
