BURNSVILLE, Minn. (KELO.com) – David Ecker, Lexi Jonas, and Aaron Voigt of the University of Sioux Falls will participate in the virtual 2020 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leadership Summit on Wednesday, May 20.
Ecker (Eau Claire, Wisc.) and Voigt (Gregory, S.D.) of the USF Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country Team and Jonas (Hudson, Wisc.) of the USF Women’s Golf Team will be among the 90-plus SAAC members from the 16 NSIC institutions, who will participate in two sessions Wednesday.
The morning session will revolve around leadership and feature Leadership Presence Expert Justin Patton. Later in the afternoon, the USF reps will join with others from the league to conduct their annual business meeting.
“This is a great opportunity for our SAAC leaders to participate in a leadership learning opportunity,” said Micha Thompson, Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Women’s Administrator at USF. “David (Ecker), Lexi (Jonas) and Aaron (Voigt) will be able to interact with other student leaders from across the NSIC, and learn from each other,” Thompson said.
Patton will lead the group through his program “It Start’s With You!”, focusing on four breakthrough steps to playing bigger in leadership, sports, and life. This program will challenge student-athletes to look at themselves differently, and it will change how they lead and communicate both in their sport and in life.
The NSIC SAAC Business meeting will have updates on COVID-19 impacts, a National SAAC update from NSIC National SAAC Representative Braydon Kubat of Minnesota Duluth, as well as discussion on the 2020-21 NSIC SAAC Initiatives.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) serves as the primary governance arm representing student-athlete interests in Division II affairs. SAAC members serve as student-athlete liaisons that monitor and discuss happenings on campuses, within the conference, and at the national level.
