SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken says he’s been called Hitler, “Mayor Mussolini” and everything in-between for proposing a strong stay-at-home order.
But he’s got to try to stay ahead of the COVID curve.
“It pains me to have to bring things like this forward. I don’t want to have to do that. But we continue to balance this very fluid, very delicate situation.”
TenHaken says the latest models project that Sioux Falls will hit the peak for COVID cases in mid-May. He admits that the proposed ordinance is a “heavier handed” approach, but its got to be done.
The proposed order requires residents to stay home except for essential trips and critical jobs.
Sioux Falls City Council was getting its first official look at Wednesday night’s meeting.
