SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls School District has been keeping in touch with parents and students via email during this unprecedented time.
Here is the email sent on 4/16/20:
Hello Sioux Falls School District Families – Perhaps you have noticed we are condensing communications from the District office to once a week as we wrap up the first month of remote learning. We appreciate the processes each family has put in place to ensure their students continue to be engaged – approximately 90% of students are connected and turning in work! We have all grown through this adversity and we are achieving things we never dreamed possible!
+ As the number of COVID-19 cases rise in Sioux Falls, we are mindful of the impact this has on families. Please do what you can to prevent the spread–stay home when possible, wear a mask in public, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Yesterday, SFSD proudly donated 30 boxes of wipes, hand sanitizer, and rubber gloves to our friends at the SF Police Department!
+ FREE Daily Meals continue to be available M-F from 11:30-12:30 at six school locations: Lowell, Hawthorne, Hayward, Terry Redlin, Anne Sullivan, and Laura B. Anderson. Bus routes deliver food and school materials at the locations found in this link: http://www.sf.k12.sd.us/district-news/3150-bus-stops. The District is serving an average of 4,511 meals daily. Families who can benefit from community food distributions at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds should call 211 to register.
+ The District applauds internet service providers, like Midco, for helping families access remote learning. Installations are still taking place. In the meantime, remember free wifi locations: Howard Wood Field parking lot, Phillips Ave (downtown), Levitt at the Falls, Harmodon Park, and SF Regional Airport. Teachers and principals can provide support for questions on homework through phone calls and emails during normal business hours at all schools and offices.
+ SFSD is participating in the statewide “Let It Shine SD” event on May 1 at 9:30 pm by lighting up Howard Wood Field to show support for healthcare workers and those on the frontlines. We invite your family to join the cause.
+ The District is surveying high school seniors to determine a plan for graduation. Information about semester tests will come soon. Plans for the return of personal items from classrooms are being developed. We appreciate your patience.
+ Kindergarten registration for Fall 2020 is available. Inform friends and neighbors who have a child who will be 5-yrs-old on or before September 1, 2020. http://www.sf.k12.sd.us/district-news/2392-kindergarten-registration
Other Reminders: *It’s not too late to complete the 2020 Census! Results determine billions of dollars in federal funding every year. In Sioux Falls, results bring approximately $1900 per person, per year to the city/state to pay for school lunch programs, fire departments, roads, bridges and more. *The Sioux Falls City Council passed a first-reading of a Stay-At-Home Ordinance last night. An infographic is attached to help you familiarize yourself with the proposal. *School playgrounds/equipment are closed to group activity. Open green spaces may be used for family-only activities.
+ The District continues to accept donations of cloth face masks for staff who are working in our schools. We have been able to “outfit” our staff working on lunches and are now working to “outfit” our custodians. Thank you!
+ Until next week, be well! #ProudToBeSFSD
