SIOUX FALLS. S.D. (KELO.com) — Just because Sioux Falls residents need to socially distance doesn’t mean they can’t get outside.
Mayor Paul TenHaken and city Public Health Director Jill Franken both encouraged outdoor activity at their briefing Friday, as long as people take care to stay six feet apart from one another.
“Get out; get exercise. Exercise is not banned in the city; it’s not canceled,” TenHaken said. “But we need people to not gather in groups.”
Franken said going for walks on the sidewalk or bike trails “is really important right now” to help take care of people’s mental health.
TenHaken said he was aware of 20 to 30 people gathering at Heritage Park on the city’s east side Thursday. He says it’s not illegal for them to be in a group but it’s also not a good idea.
“All we can continue to do is preach the message of social distancing,” TenHaken said.
