Minnehaha County Commission approved a burn ban effective from April 28, 2020 to May 12th 2020. This burn ban was recommended by the Rural Fire Chiefs and the Minnehaha County Emergency Management Director. A fire danger emergency is declared and all open burning under Minnehaha County ordinance MC34-04 is prohibited within the boundaries of Minnehaha County, exclusive of any incorporated municipality within the county.
Rural Fire Departments have responded to numerous fire calls recently. Many of these calls originated with controlled burns that became out of control and have destroyed several structures. These calls put a strain on volunteer fire resources and personnel. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and hope the recent wet weather will ease the situation.
