SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Mayor Paul TenHaken says he’s proposing a new, less restrictive ordinance to deal with the coronavirus.
He’s called a special city council meeting for 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday).
TenHaken says the measure begins to allow entertainment and food and drink businesses to start opening up.
However, the new ordinance would not be just mere guidelines.
The Mayor says violation of the ordinance would be a Class 2 misdemeanor, just as it is under the current emergency ordinances.
If passed, the ordinance would have a second reading a week from today.
Also beginning today, the City of Sioux Falls will reopen playground equipment, dog parks, skate parks, and basketball courts.
Park restrooms remain closed and park drinking fountains are unavailable for use.
Shelters remain closed to park users and athletic fields remain closed to group activities.
The City says the reopening follows the review of updated COVID-19 case projections and peak patient surge estimates.
