SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls School District has been keeping in touch with parents and students via email.
Here is the email from 4/30/20:
Hello, Sioux Falls School District Staff & Families –
+ On Tuesday, Governor Kristi Noem announced her “Back to Normal” plan for South Dakota. Tuesday evening, you also heard from Dr. Brian Maher, SFSD Superintendent, who announced we will continue with remote learning through the end of the year. The last day for students is Wednesday, May 20, 2020. In some cases, technology will be turned in before that date, however, learning will continue with lessons and projects that can be done without the use of technology. You have shown great patience and support in the first half of this 9-weeks and we ask for your continued commitment until May 20. Virtual graduation is Sunday, May 24, 2020.
+ Today, the City of Sioux Falls announced it is relaxing restrictions on parks and playgrounds. You will find SFSD locations open for family use in the days ahead. However, no group activities or gatherings are allowed on school property.
+ Falls Community Health, a partner of SFSD, has created an infographic and video to help parents better understand some of the emotions their children may be facing due to the coronavirus. We all process information differently and children (even teens and young adults) need our support. Please see the attachment and/or the following link for more information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz_PJx8Keyo
+ FREE meals are available at six school locations on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and at 90+ bus stops on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students will receive multiple meals for the week.
+ Online registration (required) for Fall 2020 will be released soon. Please watch for more information in the coming days.
+ IMPT REMINDER: Parents and community members are invited to participate in one of five virtual community engagement meetings regarding school attendance boundaries. The first is scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2020, at 7 pm. You can watch live on the District’s YouTube channel or if you have a question or comment, you can call in on a conference line. Details about how to access the call and live stream will be found on the District’s website 24-hours in advance of each meeting. www.sf.k12.sd.us
+ The Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation is recognizing SFSD employees who go Above and Beyond. https://www.facebook.com/SFPSEF/ Nominate someone you’ve appreciated through this challenging time… and keep the love coming with recognition during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4-8!
+ Let It Shine SD! Mark your calendar for Friday, May 1, as South Dakotans light up the sky to show support for healthcare workers and those on the frontlines of COVID-19! At 9:30 pm, we will illuminate Howard Wood Field to show the support of SFSD! We invite you to light up your home, shine flashlights or anything else you can to show your support! #ProudToBeSFSD
