SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Supporters of Smithfield workers in Sioux Falls are organizing a “Thank You Parade” Wednesday.
According to the event’s website, supporters will show their appreciation outside the plant twice, once starting at 6 a.m. and one starting at 3 p.m.
Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken said he’ll be there on social media Tuesday.
“Please consider joining me for a “Thank You Parade” to celebrate and thank the employees of Smithfield Foods and the work they have done and continue to do in our city,” the mayor posted on Facebook. “I hope to see you there.”
The Smithfield meatpacking plant in Sioux Falls began reopening last week. It shut down in April after becoming one of the largest COVID-19 hotspots in the United States.
