SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History (GPZ) is actively recruiting volunteers.
Docent Volunteers
Great Plains Zoo docents are recurring adult volunteers who engage our guests on Zoo grounds – no experience required. We train our docents to meaningfully engage with guests, and work to ensure they’re educated to share facts and answer questions about our many amazing animals.
“Docent volunteers fill a valuable role at the Great Plains Zoo,” said Leigh Spencer, GPZ Education & Engagement Manager. “By engaging our guests on Zoo grounds, they help those guests to develop a deeper connection with our animals and the species they represent, while also enhancing the experience our guests have during their visit.”
Docents must be at least 18 years old and should commit to a regular schedule.
Community Volunteer Groups
Volunteer groups make a big difference in keeping our Zoo a beautiful place to visit!
Opportunities will kick off in March, and could include tasks like weeding, raking or painting. Community groups should include at least four people and plan to volunteer at least two hours. Groups may include kids as young as 12, if accompanied by adults. We welcome groups from workplaces, churches, service organization and any others looking to give back to their community.
