SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Former State Lawmaker Alex Jensen is challenging Teresa Stehly for her at-large seat on Sioux Falls City Council in the June 2 election.
Both say handling budget challenges will be important.
Stehly touts her experience on the council.
“Now more than ever we’re going to need some fiscal wisdom as we to recover from this pandemic. And I have always worked to put the citizens’ best interest forward.”
Jensen says the council must have budget integrity and discipline.
“The highways and streets part of our budget is 17 percent. The police is 8 percent and fire is 6 percent. We have to be critical of funding outside of there.”
Both Stehly and Jensen spoke at a candidate forum hosted by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.
Stehly is seeking another four-year term on council. Jensen spent two years in the South Dakota House of Representatives.
