SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — At an impromptu news conference at 10 p.m., Mayor Paul TenHaken said local youths were participating in looting and violence in the Empire Mall area.
He said he even recognized some of the youths and certainly saw them wearing shirts from local schools.
TenHaken said the National Guard had been mobilized yesterday.
He said Sioux Falls Police had fired tear gas and other non-lethal weapons during the disturbance.
There were media reports of police cars having their windows broken out.
A curfew for much of Sioux Falls remains in effect until 7 a.m.
