SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.COM) — The Sioux Falls Downtown Rotary Club has hosted an online discussion about race and the police in the aftermath of the Empire Mall riot.
Community Leader Vaney Hariri says Sioux Falls has to have an honest discussion about why so many teenagers chose violence.
“We can’t control the first rock…..the part that concerns me, the part I want us to think about as a community, is the second rock,” Hariri asks what was running through their minds to choose that option.
Police Lt. Jon Thum says the police want to be part of the solution, but it’s not all on them.
“If you are looking to us to solve the issue alone, we’re not interested. We want your help. We want all of us to get together on this topic.”
