SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Minnehaha County Auditor Bob Litz says the recount for the City Council race between Theresa Stehly and Alex Jensen should be concluded yet today, perhaps before evening.
Litz is not running the recount but is lending the use of his staff to recount ballots and the use of the Minnehaha County Election Center.
Mid-afternoon when KELO.com News visited, the bi-partisan election board was sorting out some issues concerning unsigned ballots or ballots signed by someone other than the voter. The candidates and their seconds were tense but the atmosphere was friendly but business-like.
After the City Council canvassed the election, challenger Jensen was ahead of incumbent Stehly by 109 votes. There were over 28,000 votes cast in the election, many by mail or absentee voting because of coronavirus concerns.
The election for the at-large seat was June 2.
