SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Fire Rescue took to social media to share how to safely dispose of used fireworks.
Fireworks Safety Tip: Soak used fireworks in water for at least five hours before putting them in the trash, to help prevent a fire. Don’t put used fireworks in a trash bin in or next to a garage, or other structure, if they have not been soaked in water first.
According to the National Safety Council fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires each year, including 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and nearly 17,000 other fires.
