SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Minnehaha County Treasurer’s Office is asking for additional help to handle long lines and wait times for vehicle registration and other requests.
“Before the COVID Virus thing, the waits were down to about 20 minutes or less. But since that, they have been anywhere from four hours to the average of about two-and-a-half hours,” County Treasurer Pam Nelson tells the County Commission.
Another challenge is that the long lines combined with social distancing mean people wind up waiting outside the county building in downtown Sioux Falls. County Commissioner Dean Karsky recently got an earful from an angry resident.
“I guess I could best describe it as a good old-fashioned butt chewing because we shouldn’t have people standing in line outside and so on and so forth.”
Nelson says her people have been working overtime hours and they’re also working half a day three Saturdays a month, even when the building is closed to the public. She says at least one more employee would make a “significant difference.”
