YANKTON SIOUX TRIBAL MEMBERS GET FREE ADMISSION INTO LOCAL STATE PARKS AND RECREATION AREAS
From the Yankton Sioux Tribe. . .
Wagner, S.D. — On July 16, 2020, the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Commission approved a proposal to allow the Yankton Sioux Tribe, Ihanktonwan Nation, citizens free access to the North Point, Randall Creek, South Shore, Spillway Recreation Areas.
The access is strictly for entry into the areas only and does not include fishing, camping, etc.
“The decision by the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Commission to open free access to the Inhanktonwan Nation to the four State Recreation Areas adjacent to our community is great news. Removing the financial barrier that has prevented some of our members’ access to the Missouri River recognizes our special connection. We want to thank Secretary Kelly Hepler, the Commission, and the team at the South Dakota Game, Parks and Fish for working with our Business and Claims Committee and lobbyist to make this possible. Mni Waconi” said Yankton Sioux Tribe Business and Claims Committee Vice Chairman Jason Cooke.
