SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — In honor of Veterans Day, KELO.com News asked some area veterans and non-veterans what Veterans Day means to them.
Col. Bill Strandell (USAF retired):
It’s a time to reflect on what the military veterans have done to preserve freedom and liberty, not just within the United States but freedom and liberty and peace throughout the world.
Denzil Bursey, Brand Manager, KRRO-FM:
It’s important to me because really we don’t show enough appreciation to true heroes in our country because every day in my book should be Veterans Day. God love everybody that served.
Liz Ryan, Producer, The Greg Belfrage Show, who moved 15 times around the world while her father was in the Navy for 23 years:
For me, it means sacrifice. We didn’t just celebrate my dad because when you have a military family, it’s not just the service member that is in the military. It’s the entire family.
1st Lt. Travis Robinson, CAP, Commander of the Civil Air Patrol’s Sioux Falls Composite Squadron:
Veterans Day represents the day I have the opportunity to thank all of those that have put forth time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears for me to be able to hold my head up proudly.
Bill Zortman. who was a Tech Sergeant in the Iowa Air National Guard and is host of It’s Your Business:
It means all the people whether they serve 20 years 30 years 180 days. They answered the call to the country. They answered the call to give, knowing that their families were also affected and they could have a positive mark on history.
FROM ALL OF US AT KELO.COM NEWS, THANK YOU, VETERANS!
