SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls health experts say the area can expect a surge in coronavirus cases toward the end of September.
Doctors from Avera and Sanford and the City’s health director spoke to the media at noon Wednesday.
Both Dr. Mike Wilde and Dr. David Basel said the best thing citizens can do is get vaccinated.
They say the delta variant spreads faster than earlier variants of the coronavirus.
Whether local governments and school districts should implement mask mandates, Dr. Wilde said that was a decision for governments and not the health care systems.
They also encouraged handwashing, social distancing, and mask-wearing.
They say patients coming into the hospitals now from the coronavirus are in their early 50s, as compared to the late 60s during the last year’s surge in cases.
