SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — If you’re looking for an excuse to sit out on your front lawn and enjoy the weather this evening, you’re in luck because tonight is National Night Out.
National Night Out is an annual event put on by local organizers throughout the country with the goal of growing relations between neighbors in a community.
Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens compares it to a nationwide neighborhood watch gathering.
He also says it’s a great way to familiarize yourself with who the members of the neighborhood are, and what cars they drive so that neighbors are more likely to say something if they see something out of the ordinary.
Community members are encouraged to spend time outdoors this evening, mingle with neighbors, and chat with police and fire personnel if you see them driving by.
Check with local groups to see if there are any events near you planned for National Night Out.
