SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls metro local governments continue to work on ordinances on managing medical marijuana once it becomes available in South Dakota at the end of October.
City Councilor Greg Neitzert says Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County, and Lincoln County are trying to keep their zoning, other ordinances, and approaches consistent with one another.
The three governments have joint powers over zoning. Neitzert says they’re looking at separating the businesses, where they can be located, and signage.
When it comes to medical marijuana licensing, however, the local governments can develop their own schemes.
He said that Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County are taking a “cautious and conservative” approach to medical marijuana, but Lincoln County is farther ahead in what it plans to do.
Neitzert says you should see ordinances start to be considered by the bodies in early August.
Neitzert reported Tuesday at the City Council Information Meeting on the joint committee that is looking to work through issues on handling medical marijuana at the local level. The committee has its last meeting on July 21.
