SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) – The Sioux Falls City Council voted unanimously to approve the Mayor’s selection of Lt. Jon Thum as the new Sioux Falls Chief of Police.
In remarks to the Council, Thum praised the honor, integrity, and valor of the city’s police force. Thum also thanked the council and the citizens of Sioux Falls for their support for the department. He said at a time when other cities have been defunding the police, Sioux Falls has supported the force and invested in public safety. Instead of trying to fight with the police, Thum said residents have showered the department with sweets, cookies, and donuts.
Thum said the trust built between the police and the city’s residents will help the department continue to serve and meet any challenges.
The Council also applauded the tenure of outgoing Chief Matt Burns.
