SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls Canaries (17-17) fell to the Gary SouthShore RailCats (16-19) by a final score of 7-2 Friday at The Birdcage. The Birds and Cats meet again Saturday at 6:05.
Sioux Falls held a lead of 2-0 heading to the eighth inning before the RailCats tied the game on a two-RBI single by Tom Walraven. After the Canaries left two in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth, the RailCats rallied for five runs in the nint to run away with the victory.
The loss wasted a spectacular start from Tyler Garkow, who struck out eight while scattering three hits in six innings of scoreless ball. He did not issue a walk in the no-decision.
D.J. Sharabi (0-1) was credited with the loss for the Canaries. Sharabi pitched the ninth inning, allowing 6 hits and five runs (five earned). Trevor Lubking (2-3) was credited with the win for the RailCats. Lubking threw 130 pitches in eight innings. He allowed seven hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out a career-high 12.
The Canaries recorded eight hits in the loss. Jabari Henry sent one out of The Birdcage in the second inning to give the game its first run. Mitch Glasser recorded two hits. Cade Gotta also recorded two hits and scored on an error in the third.
The second contest of the series will feature RHP Angel Ventura (3-3, 6.53 ERA) on the mound for Sioux Falls. The starter for Gary is TBA.
