The service is forecasting five straight days of 90-degree heat after a 91-degree high on Thursday. That would be the first time since 1934 that Sioux Falls has seen five straight days in the 90s this early in the year.
Starting today, we have a forecast of 5 or more days in a row of 90°+ heat! 🥵
Why is this unusual? It is rare for this to happen so early in the year. Similar events are:
Huron – 2017, 1934, 1933
Sioux City – 2020, 2018, 1934
Sioux Falls – 1934
Mitchell – 1967, 1934, 1933— NWS Sioux Falls (@NWSSiouxFalls) June 3, 2021
The service says “humidity levels will be reasonable” over the weekend, but the heat index could get as high as 100 degrees at times.
