SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Monday night’s first big thunderstorm of the season welcomed spring to the Sioux Falls metro with a light and sound show.
Hail was also reported in northern Sioux Falls and in Harrisburg.
There could be more of the same Tuesday and Wednesday. The National Weather Service has placed much of the KELO Radio listening area under a Hazardous Weather Outlook.
.DAY ONE…This Afternoon and Tonight
A wind advisory is in effect until 7 PM over portions of southeast Nebraska. South winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts to over 40 mph are expected. Thunderstorm chances will increase this afternoon as the environment destabilizes due to daytime heating.
Meanwhile, as cold front drops out of the Dakotas, storms are expected to increase in intensity and areal coverage from northwest to southeast. Severe storm activity will most likely occur during the early evening hours. Damaging winds and large hail will be the main hazards, but there is a small chance that a tornado could develop over portions of southeast Nebraska.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Wednesday through Monday There will continue to be a chance for thunderstorms for much of the area on Wednesday. There is a marginal risk for severe storms, mainly across southwest Iowa and areas of far eastern Nebraska near the Missouri River. Hail and strong winds would be the main hazards.
Stay tuned to KELO Radio for the latest on our unsettled spring weather.
