SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) – Before you run out and get chickens for the backyard, the Sioux Falls Police Department is reminding everyone to follow the law.
If you want a duck, goose, turkey, or more than 6 chickens to harvest your own egg laying hen house, you need a permit from Animal Control.
The ordinance states the City does allow a person to keep up to 6 chickens or rabbits without a permit, however if you want more than 6 you will need the permit and written approval from your neighbors.
Also the city does not allow roosters in city limits.
You can find more information about permits on Animals Control’s website here.
