SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem holds a media availability Monday at 10:30 a.m. to announce a new initiative to what she says will defend fairness in women’s sports.
The announcement will include participation from 4-time LPGA Player of the Year Nancy Lopez, former NFL football player Jack Brewer, and other athletes.
Last week, Noem vetoed for “style and form” a bill prohibiting transgender women from competing in collegiate and school sports in South Dakota.
Her “style and form” veto would only ban transgender women from competing in school sports and not collegiate sports. It also includes some other reporting requirements.
Noem has drawn criticism from both liberal and conservative groups for the revised bill. Some legislative leaders say her use of the “style and form” veto overreaches her authority and creates new legislation.
The news conference will be held at Hilton Garden at 201 East 8th Street in Sioux Falls.
