SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) – The IRS announced this week they have extended this years tax filing due date for personal taxes.
The original deadline was April 15, 2021 but was extended until May 17, 2021.
Chuck Rettig, the IRS Commissioner issued a statement saying “This continues to be a tough time for many people, and the IRS wants to continue to do everything possible to help taxpayers navigate the unusual circumstances related to the pandemic, while also working on important tax administration responsibilities.” “Even with the new deadline, we urge taxpayers to consider filing as soon as possible, especially those who are owed refunds. Filing electronically with direct deposit is the quickest way to get refunds, and it can help some taxpayers more quickly receive any remaining stimulus payments they may be entitled to.”
The IRS is urging taxpayers who are expecting a refund to file as soon as possible.
Most tax refunds will be issued within 21 days from the time the IRS accepted the return, the fastest way to receive the refund is direct deposit.
