SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — While parts of South Dakota are already dealing with snow after this week’s “Fake Spring,” the Sioux Falls region could be in for a return to snow this weekend into next week–or not.
The Sioux Falls area remains under a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service. They say we could be in for a winter storm or maybe not:
Another larger and slow-moving system appears set to move toward the region late in the weekend into early next week. Considerable uncertainty remains on timing, type, and amount of precipitation, but the system could easily have a wintry impact to travel. Be sure to watch later forecasts for updates.
Meanwhile, the Brookings, Huron, and Chamberlain areas remain under a Winter Weather Advisory until midnight Wednesday:
* WHAT…Snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
* WHERE…In South Dakota, Brookings County. In Minnesota, Lincoln County.
* WHEN…Until midnight CST tonight.
* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.
And areas north of Huron and Brookings are under a Winter Storm Warning until midnight Wednesday:
* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.
* WHERE…Portions of northeast South Dakota.
* WHEN…Until midnight CST tonight.
* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility this evening. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.
