SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Police are investigating another homicide.
Around midnight, someone called 9-1-1 to say there was a body in the middle of the road in the area of the 6500 block of South Meadows Place near Sandalwood Place.
Police say video shows numerous vehicles drove by but did not render aid for nearly a half-hour before the police got the call.
The victim is Mitchell James Houchins, 27.
He had a gunshot wound to the chest. Houchins was declared dead at a Sioux Falls hospital.
Lt. Terrance Matia said at Thursday morning’s police briefing that the department needs the public’s help in solving the homicide. He said it isn’t “just” a police matter but of concern to the entire community.
Matia says the delay in getting notified about Houchins prevented the victim from getting timely medical aid. Matia said the person who called in the report said they had heard about a body lying in the street.
Matia says if you were in the crime scene area last night, please contact the Sioux Falls Police.
