SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A snowstorm is arriving in the Sioux Falls area, bringing an expected three to six inches of snow over the course of the day Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Sioux Falls area that runs through midnight Wednesday. The NWS issued a winter storm warning for parts of far southern South Dakota, northeast Nebraska and northwest Iowaat about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The NWS says snowfall in those areas could reach six to eight inches.

As of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday several roads in Nebraska and south central South Dakota were completely covered with snow as the system moved eastward.
The system features wind gusts of about 20 to 30 mph, significant but much less than the gusts that caused whiteout conditions in the area last Wednesday. The snowfall is expected to leave Sioux Falls between 10 p.m. Tuesday and midnight Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Authorities are advising South Dakotans to leave extra time when traveling and be careful on the road.
