SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com0 — Long-time Sanford Health CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft leaving the health care system is KELO.com News’ number five non-covid-19 story of 2020 in the area.
Krabbenhoft became the leader of what was then Sioux Valley Hospital nearly a quarter of a century ago.
Under his leadership, the health provider grew.
Krabbenhoft was instrumental in getting billionaire banker T. Denny Sanford to contribute nearly half a billion dollars.
That meant a name change to Sanford–and two decades of regional and worldwide growth and cutting edge research.
But in December, Krabbenhoft and Sanford Health mutually parted ways after a controversial email Krabbenhoft sent about not wearing a mask after having the coronavirus.
Sanford appointed a new CEO soon after Krabbenhoft’s departure.
