SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — South Dakota lawmakers are still figuring out how the legislature will meet in Pierre next month.
There will be COVID-19 precautions, but the details are still being sorted. Senator Jim Bolin of Canton said most senators will be expected to follow CDC guidelines.
“The big issue will be if there are recalcitrant members; is there going to be any kind of punishment or things like that, so some of those details are still being worked out,” Bolin said.
Bolin said legislators from both sides of the aisle are meeting virtually to discuss the procedures. He said he plans to wear a mask while working.
Bolin said his colleagues have talked about passing special rules that would allow legislative leaders to make quick decisions as the situation changes.
Legislators met last March for an extended “veto day” just after the pandemic reached South Dakota. Most members attended virtually, voting on issues over the internet. The 2021 session starts on January 12.
