SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls City Council green lights the Smithfield Foods move to the Crooks area, but not without opposition. A large crowd filled the Council chambers Tuesday night. Many spoke against the plan, including Julie Liesinger. She lives at an intersection near the plant that she says is already the second most dangerous in the county. “I’m the person that has witnessed more accidents on that corner than anyone ever should and nobody is talking about a traffic study that needs to be done at that corner, and the surrounding area of Crooks because of how this traffic is going to change.” Her testimony made a difference, as the City Council amended the Permit to include a traffic study. Council members approved a conditional use permit and a Tax Increment Financing District to make way for the new plant to be built.
