Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.)
WASHINGTON, DC (KELO.com) — Senate Majority Leader John Thune says he doesn’t have the votes to get the “SAVE America Act” through the U-S Senate. It would require photo ID’s for proof of citizenship for people registering to vote. Even without the votes to pass it, Senator Thune says there will be a debate on the issue. Appearing on Fox News with Bret Baier, Senator Thune said, “What I’ve said all along, Bret, is that what we will do is we will guarantee a debate on this issue. Obviously, it’s a big priority for the president. There are a lot of people across the country who want to see this voted on. And we will guarantee a vote at the end of that, and we’ll see where people stand.” Thune is resisting pressure from the White House to temporarily nuke the filibuster to beat the 60-vote threshold needed to pass the bill.
