City Council facing decision on proposals for TIF and Conditional Use Permit for Smithfield

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The proposed move of Smithfield Foods from The Falls to the Foundation Park development park on the city’s northwestern edge goes back before the City Council this week.  The Council will consider approval of a Tax Increment Financing District – or TIF – and a Conditional Use Permit for the 1.5-billion dollar plant.  The TIF would defer close to $90-million in taxes to help finance construction of a wastewater treatment facility.
