LINCOLN COUNTY, SD (KELO.com) — Rural Lincoln County residents find themselves in an all too familiar position. They’ve fought plans for a new prison, CO2 pipelines and wind turbines. Now they’re facing a proposed large dairy operation. MiKota Holdings, LLC of Michigan wants to build a 62-hundred head dairy operation in Lincoln County. Dione Erickson lives within a mile of the proposed dairy facility. Among other things, she’s concerned about the impact on water quality. “They want to put in a manure pipe, which will run through the front of my property,” she says. If there’s a leak it could pollute her water source. Erickson is one of ten neighbors that live within one mile of the proposed site. They’ll oppose the project at Tuesday night’s Lincoln County Planning and Zoning Commission hearing.
