CUSTER, SD (KELO.com) — Wildfires are being driven by strong winds and dry conditions in the Black Hills, with some residents being evacuated. Custer State Park was closed and residents in several areas were asked to evacuate. The Custer Armory was opened for evacuees needing shelter. The fire danger is high across the region.
The high winds are also taking a toll on semi trucks. Highway Patrol Troopers say several semis have been blown over on I-29 in the northeastern part of South Dakota. Highway 81 was closed while crews remove a semi from the roadway.
