CROOKS, SD (KELO.com) — Residents of Crooks will get a chance to hear more about the Smithfield Foods Plant moving to their neighborhood Monday night. Plans have been announced to move the plant from The Falls area to Foundation Park on the northwest side of Sioux Falls, on the outskirts of Crooks. Nearby homeowners have raised concerns about traffic, noise and smell. The Crooks City Council is hosting the meeting at the Crooks Community Center.
At the same time, the Sioux Falls City Council will hold first reading of the Smithfield Foods tax incentive package Tuesday evening. A large crowd gave emotional testimony at the Planning Commission hearing on the package last week. Officials are working to establish a 90-million dollar Tax Increment Financing District for the project.
