PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — A bill to define between a man and woman will be heard by the full South Dakota Senate. Opponents claim the bill would have broad impacts on contracts, policies and statutes. It was approved unanimously by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
At the same time, the South Dakota Supreme Court has denied a transgender woman’s bid to change her birth certificate. Sigrid Nelson was born a man, but filed a lawsuit to change the birth certificate. The Supreme Court was unanimous in its ruling that state law doesn’t provide for that.
